A 'sound wave is literally caused by increased pressure at certain points to cause a "domino effect" outward, plus the pressure points are the peaks of a sound wave, and behind them the pressure points that are small tail. These are the cables on a wavelength graph. Speed of sound depends largely on the type, temperature and pressure of the medium in which it spreads. Because the air is nearly a perfect gas, the speed of sound does not depend on the atmospheric pressure. The frequency range of sound that is audible to humans is approx. between 20 and 20,000 Hz range of courses varies between individuals, and goes down as the age increases. Sounds will begin to damage our ears at 85 dBSPL and sounds on top of about 130 dBSPL cause pain, so they are known as "pain threshold". Of course in this area vary between individuals and changes with age.
