Book Review American Folk Magick
Book Review American Folk Magick American Folk Magick: Charms, Spells & HerbalsAuthor: Silver Raven Wolf Trade Paperback, 320 pages Publisher: LlewellynPublication Date: Dec 1998ISBN: 156718720XMore information: Folk Magick Llewellyn is the new title for what is known as Hexcraft: Dutch Country Magick. Although I have never seen the book under the original title, I suspect that not only the cover and title pages have been changed since the left headers still say "HexCraft." I like this book. Silver Raven Wolf is simple enough for beginners book on the art of the Pow Wow. Pow-Wow is a Magickal brought to America by settlers from the Rhineland, which is now Germany, in Pennsylvania. I always thought Raven was the wolf in his element when it comes to magic. This book proves my point. Their statements are clear, and in most cases appears to be complete. I think his style of mixing anecdotes with instruction works much better with them than with Magick religion. As Pow-Wow is primarily a system of healing, the different chapters of the American Folk Magick for Pow Wow methods of healing. Other chapters cover tools defensive Magick, divination, cursing and banning, hex symbols, and also the "dark" side of the Pow-Wow (which seems to be largely ceremonial Magick abused connection). Although I consider this one of the best books of Raven Wolf I have two real problems with him. First, the author confuses their theory that the Pow Wow is a version of the old Christian religion disguised by an overlap of material on the history of the Pow Wow. While the author of speculation in this area is interesting, I think it would be a little 'more distinct from that history. Second, instead of instructions on one of the best known and most interesting of the Pow Wow, the "hex symbols" Raven Wolf merely refers the reader to another book Llewellyn for this information. Another small problem is that sometimes both Christian and pagan versions of songs and spells, which often pay only the versions. This is true even when it seems obvious that they are a Christian convert in a pagan version. This makes the book a little 'less useful than it could be a Christian to lea to find System.IO Pow Wow Magickal a fascinating system. If you are interested, Raven Wolf American Folk Magick is one of the few books in print on the subject. It is probably the only slightly available. This review is one of hundreds of reviews of Pagan, Wiccan, metaphysical and occult books in the boiler: A Pagan Forum Books and Reviews Section About the Author Randall Sapphire is the founder and co-host of the Cauldron: A Pagan Forum (), a popular website and Pagan Inter Faith Forum.
